The volume provides an overview of the ongoing scientific activities at the Institute for Electromagnetic Sensing of the Environment, part of the Italian National Research Council (IREA-CNR), focusing on their practical applications. Public research is increasingly expected to transfer scientific findings to society, expanding the benefits of knowledge. In line with this, the volume highlights the Institute’s ability to develop solutions to real-world problems, emphasizing the impact of IREA’s research on daily life.
The well-established expertise of the Institute’s researchers in microwave and optical remote sensing, electromagnetic diagnostics, computer science, geophysics, and bioelectromagnetism, enables them to respond to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and to address some of the most critical challenges facing the future of the planet: pollution, climate change, food and water scarcity, soil degradation, and both natural and anthropic risks.
